Fresh from its victories at the first two historic motor racing events of the 2014 season – the Goodwood 72nd Members Meeting in March and the Donington Historic Festival in early May – the JD Classics Historic Racing Department notched-up yet another convincing victory at last weekend’s biannual Grand Prix de Monaco Historique. Driving JD Classics’ well-known Juan Manuel Fangio Jaguar C-type, expertly prepared in-house by the Essex-based team, driver Alex Buncombe qualified in pole position on Saturday and went on to take a decisive victory on Sunday afternoon in the Series C race for sports cars raced between 1952 and 1955. He won the same race in the same car at the last Monaco Historique in 2012. Also competing in the same race, JD Classics’ founder Derek Hood finished in a credible ninth position in a 1954 Cooper T33 prepared, of course, by JD Classics. A review of the event can be found on www.jdclassics.co.uk. Immediately post-race, JD Classics’ expert team of 30 technicians packed the cars safely away and headed the 200 miles from Monaco to Brescia for the start of the 2014 Mille Miglia. Here they joined the other entries JD Classics will be supporting – in total 14 cars across a number of marques. On the event, JD Classics will be providing a technical support service to Jaguar Heritage Racing, helping to prepare an array of cars, including a 1951 Ecurie Ecosse XK 120; a car which will be driven by US TV chat show host Jay Leno in Italy and which featured on BBC One’s The One Show this week. JD Classics’ Jaguar C-type, used by Alex Buncombe for his Monaco victory, will be driven on the Mille Miglia by cult Belgian singer-songwriter Milow, along with Jaguar Land Rover Regional Director for Europe, Bernard Kuhnt. Commenting on the Monaco victory, JD Classics Managing Director Derek Hood said: “I am delighted that Alex was able to repeat his Monaco win again for the second successive time in the Juan Manuel Fangio C-type, and I am looking forward to seeing this car in action on the Millie Miglia this week, along with the many other cars that we have prepared and will be maintaining during this demanding event.”Tags:
