Josh Goodyear in the GWR Raptor Father and son, Roger and Scott Moran, sharing their Gould GR61X racing car each took honours in the two run-off competitions of the British Hill Climb Championship at Shelsley Walsh over the weekend. In ideal conditions the duo, from Ludlow, who are the reigning top two seeded drivers in the country, fought off stiff competition to claim maximum points in what is regarded as the biggest event of the year, boasting large numbers of spectators, who were treated to no less than five separate class records being broken. Trevor Willis, driving an OMS 25 V8 retains his lead at the top of the current standings but the top group is being chased hard by this year’s sensation Josh Goodyear, driving the GWR Raptor, a 1600cc motorcycle-engined car, who set a blistering new class record and won himself the Man of the Meeting award. Organised by hosts, the Midland Automobile Club, the weekend also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the iconic Lotus Elan and to mark the occasion several famous Lotus cars took part in a parade, demonstration runs and special competition classes, with hundreds of other Lotus examples filling the car parks. Young local driver Alex Summers of Tenbury Wells, driving his supercharged DJ Firehawk, beat 16 other cars to win the 2 Litre racing car class and experienced Lancashire driver Andrew Henson, driving his Van Diemen RF91, returning to the sport after a break, broke the record in the Formula Ford class. The next meeting at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb is on the 22nd and 23rd September 2012. For further details www.shelsley-walsh.co.uk.Tags:
