854006_jdc1JD Classics is celebrating another great historic racing win in 2014 with victory at the Autosport Three-Hour race at Snetterton. Making its season debut, the JD Classics Lightweight E-Type ‘1196 WK’, driven by Alex Buncombe and Chris Ward, battled wet conditions and a field of 34 GT and Sports Cars. Its first competitive event since the Algarve Historic Festival in October last year, the JD Classics Racing Team carried out a full overhaul of the Lightweight E-Type in preparation for Snetterton, upgrading the car with its latest high-torque competition engine. Starting from pole position – the Lightweight E-Type was over a second faster in qualifying than its nearest rival – Chris Ward and Alex Buncombe drove an intelligent race, contending with a highly competitive field, heavy rain and oil on the track. The treacherous circuit even forced Ward into a spin ahead of the final pitstop, but he recovered and handed over the E-Type to Buncombe who took the chequered flag on Lap 66, two laps ahead of the nearest rival. JD Classics’ Lightweight E-Type was the only E-Type of the starting five to finish. The team received the trophy from Jack Sears, who won the endurance event 50 years ago in equally challenging conditions. Derek Hood, JD Classics’ Managing Director, commented: “All credit to the team on this superb victory in some very difficult conditions and against a highly competitive field. The race team worked extremely hard to prepare the Lightweight E-Type for the event with some significant upgrades including our latest specification engine. As ever, Alex and Chris did the team proud with a great drive. “This win at Snetterton, combined with our victories at Monaco, Goodwood and Donington already this season, just pays further testament to the hard work and great skill of the JD Classics racing team. I’m really looking forward to continued success at the Le Mans Classic in July.” JD Classics is one of the world’s leading classic car companies and is based in Essex, England.
