Jaguar Drivers Club Goodwood Day

Jaguar Drivers ClubA hot Bank Holiday Monday saw 50 cars and drivers book in for the JDC Goodwood track day and it was a great event. From all over the country they gathered with regulars from as far afield as Jersey enjoying great weather and an incident free day where lap times got better and better. Even the press were there in force and passenger rides were taken up in earnest even by yours truly. Highlights were SS Jaguars running alongside early XK models through the decades up to the latest supercharged monsters. The icing on the cake was enjoying Grant Williams abuse the laws of physics in BUY1 the Mark2 with more history than a museum. I personally enjoyed an interesting time in a Mark2 where the bonnet decided to release itself on the first lap, no worries, Jersey enthusiast Rodger Price failed to panic unlike the shirt he wore for the day (orange and white squares!) and we coasted round; the marshals re-secured with a hefty shove and off we went. Next, more up to date with Sean Morvans supercharged S Type, if you have heard they are quick well it’s true, very true. Nearly all the marques models were represented and the quality of the entry very high. Unlike many track days I have attended the driving standards were very good thus fewer incidents, yes there were a few offs but you never want to be accused of not trying! It was not all Midlands muscle; the day was added too with the odd Ford GT40, some German, Swedish (Volvo Amazon) and Far Eastern machinery. .Jaguar Drivers ClubThe paddock played host to some exotica including a De Tomasa Pantera but the day belonged to the circuit; a big well done to the organisers at the Jaguar Drivers Club and the character that is John Burton. If you missed this year’s event make sure the 2014 date is in your diary.
