. A 1970 last Mk1 production Aston Martin DB6 Sports Saloon was a further highlight; despite its need for restoration it more than doubled its estimate price at £130,300. Earlier in the sale a 1957 DB MkIII Sports Saloon Project, stored since 1971 and requiring full restoration, sold to a telephone bidder for £98,940.
A 1955 Vincent 998cc Black Prince project - disassembled around 1967 and never since restored - created a bidding frenzy, as two bidders on the phone battled for their most coveted item.
Both bidders had a personal attachment to the bike; one having owned a Black Knight in his youth but always yearned for the superior Black Prince, the other (the eventual winner) sharing a birth year with the bike, and wanting to gift himself the Prince for his birthday.
The high performance motorcycle project eventually sold for almost four times its estimate at £91,100, becoming the top lot of the motorcycle sale and setting a world record for a Black Prince sold at auction.
Elsewhere in the sale, a semi-restored 1933 Talbot ‘Alpine Replica’ secured £84,380; a 1935 Alvis Speed Twenty ‘SB’ Tourer sold for £79,900, and an unusual Messerschmitt TG500 Microcar from 1958 sold for £59,740.

James Knight, Bonhams Group Motoring Director, said: “Yet again we see another fantastic Summer Classic Sale. After the recent Aston Martin Works sale in Newport Pagnell, we were not surprised to see that the brand continues to do well at our classic car auctions.”
“We’re delighted that this year’s sale has almost doubled our previous year’s total, selling £2.4 million of classic cars and motorcycles. Achieving a 93% sale rate is wonderful for Bonhams, but more importantly it’s wonderful for our clients who invest their time, money and most prized possessions with us.
“As we continue to enjoy this great British summer, we look forward to the Banfield Collection sale starting on June 13th in Staplehurst, Kent, and at the end of June our annual Goodwood Festival of Speed sale on June 27th."
