Goodwood Revival

Since its founding in 1998, the aim of the annual Goodwood Revival has been is to relive the glory days of the Goodwood Motor Circuit, which – along with Silverstone – was Britain’s leading racing venue during its active years between 1948 and 1966. During these years it hosted contemporary racing of all kinds, including Formula One, the famous Goodwood Nine Hours race and the celebrated Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy sports car race. From the initial 80,000 spectators in 1998, the Goodwood Revival has now grown to over 132,000 visitors, to make it the world’s largest celebration of historic motor racing, and the only one staged entirely in the nostalgic time capsule of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. To deal more effectively with the larger number of spectators for this year’s Revival (17-19 September) Goodwood is announcing a number of significant enhancements for the 2010 event, including improved pedestrian access, more covered grandstand seats, a larger retail market and an overall restriction on the number of advanced tickets sold. Due to Goodwood’s determination aim to keep the Revival as a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all visitors, with great viewing of all of the action on and off the track, the Earl of March – the event’s founder – has taken the exceptional step of marginally reducing the number of advance entry tickets to be sold for the meeting in just over three week’s time. This means that tickets are expected to sell out some time before the event itself As in previous years, Revival tickets will be available to advance order only on a first-come, first served basis. The number of spectators will be restricted each day to avoid congestion and cramped conditions, maintaining the event’s relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. Further enhancements to the 2010 Goodwood Revival include the extension of the large grandstand at Woodcote corner, with over 700 extra seats now added with this covered facility moving closer to the track for even better viewing of the exciting wheel-to-wheel historic vehicle racing. Access to all areas of the historic Goodwood circuit and paddock area is also improved with an extra pedestrian tunnel under the track being opened up for the first time since the 1960s. This will help to reduce walking distances to the Lavant Straight and St Mary’s corner, for example. Due to all stalls in the main Revival Market area selling out in early March, Goodwood has also extended the retail market across the road into the spectacular Pre-1966 Revival Car Show area, where the Bonham’s auction, classic car dealers and thousands of fantastic classic cars are on display. Finally, the Goodwood Revival takes a step into the modern age with the launch of official social media sites on Facebook and Twitter fan pages, which are now up and running for enthusiasts of the event to immerse themselves in all things Revival, offering a discussion platform to comment, engage and feed their appetite for this hugely popular historic motor race meeting.Tags:,
