A new book that gives an expanse of knowledge on how to buy a classic British sports car will be launched at this year’s Classic Motor Show. The Enthusiasts’ Guide to Buying a Classic British Sports Car has been a labour of love for author Peter Hingson who has spent over three years working with some of the UK’s best classic car clubs in order to find all the content. With over 600 images, this hardback book features over 150 classic British sports cars from the major manufacturers since 1945. The material has been generously provided by well over two hundred enthusiasts from over 70 car clubs. This information includes revised production figures for some models, estimates of numbers of survivors for many models and a wealth of suggestions as to what to look for when checking cars, making its cover price of £22.95 an absolute bargain against the risk of making the wrong purchase. A feature of the book is an eight-page, 100-point vehicle checklist, of use to both novices and experienced car enthusiasts, to help assess a vehicle’s condition. The book also emphasises the many advantages of club membership and there is an up-to-date UK club listing at the back. Spanning five halls and half-a-million square feet, the Classic Motor Show also includes over 300 trade stands selling a wide range of parts, spares, tools, motoring services and memorabilia. Features include an energetic Live Stage hosted by TV motoring expert Mike Brewer, who’ll be challenging mechanic Edd China to restore and build a classic car every day before it is given away to one lucky visitor. There is also an impressive Restoration Theatre has a team of mechanics ready to show visitors exactly how to tackle all aspects of restoring a cherished classic car.
