The E Type With Yee-Hah Appeal
The Corvette Stingray C3
Great Escape Cars has come up with the perfect antidote for any classic car fan who finds the E Type just a little bit too subtle. Enter the classic hire company’s latest addition, a big white Corvette Stingray C3 complete with blazing red interior. It’s the E Type from over there that’s now available over here.
The Corvette is available to hire from Great Escape Cars’ Yorkshire site in Harrogate, on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It is a late model C3 built in 1980 and fitted with the 5.7 litre ‘small block’ V8 engine and power everything – windows, door locks, steering, seats. Despite the emphasis on comfort and its relative bulk compared to an E Type, the Corvette is remarkably agile thanks to a decent chassis, good weight distribution and a light glassfibre body.
Chevrolet developed the Stingray Corvette to meet the American appetite for a low cost sports car, the same goal that Jaguar aimed to achieve with the E Type, which was widely exported to the USA. Despite both cars taking a very different route to the same goal, one emphasising pure focused sports pedigree, the other blending it with GT-style luxury, the two cars are remarkably similar. Great Escape Cars customers can choose to test one or the other or combine them over a weekend as part of the company’s new Coupe Dilemma Weekend package. This lets customers drive each car for 24 hrs over a weekend and then compare notes at the end.
The Corvette and E Type are available to hire for just £249 each for 24 hrs or £449 for the Coupe Dilemma weekend. These prices include 150 miles per day allowance, comprehensive insurance for 2 drivers and full UK breakdown cover. Great Escape can also arrange accommodation and provide recommended driving routes.
“I’ve been hiring all models of E Type out for several years and really like them, so I was a little sceptical about what the Corvette would be like,” explains Graham Eason of Great Escape. “I am hugely impressed with it. It is a big car but it handles really well with good feedback, decent ride and roadholding and of course few cars have the dramatic impact of a white and red Corvette.”
The new Corvette is part of a £100,000 worth of new addition to the Great Escape Cars’ fleet so far during 2013. The company has 60 classic cars for hire from locations in Devon, Yorkshire and Cotswolds. For more details visit http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk or call 01527 893733.
