UNRIVALLED SPONSORSHIP SUPPORT FOR 115TH ANNIVERSARY LONDON TO BRIGHTON VETERAN CAR RUN

The Royal Automobile Club’s 2011 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, taking place on Sunday 6 November, welcomes an unprecedented level of sponsorship support as it celebrates the 115th anniversary of the 1896 Emancipation Run, now heralded as the world’s longest running and arguably most famous motoring event.

Stalwart supporters of the prestigious event, Tindle Newspapers and Bonhams continue as valued title sponsors for 2011 while Mercedes-Benz and Bosch, both celebrating 125 year anniversaries, appropriately join the Veteran Car Run for the first time as Germany is honoured as this year’s country of celebration.

No fewer than 23 industry leading organisations will join forces to help ensure over 550 pre-1905 Veteran vehicles from across the globe make it to the 75th anniversary start in London’s Hyde Park and ensure this year’s Run is one of the best yet.

At over 18 years, Tindle Newspapers is the longest standing event sponsor with its support courtesy of Group Chairman, Sir Ray Tindle CBE, dating back over a staggering 48 years. The Tindle family’s 1904 Speedwell Dogcart has entered the Veteran Car Run on 46 occasions, with Sir Ray’s son Owen driving his father as passenger this year.

Tindle Newspapers produce over 200 titles in England and Wales while Tindle Radio operates stations located throughout Great Britain, including Guernsey, Ireland, Jersey, Ipswich, Lowestoft, Norwich and North Norfolk.

Sharing the title sponsorship for the second year, Bonhams will once again host the renowned Veteran Car Run auction and International Participants Reception on Friday 4 November at its prestige salerooms in New Bond Street, London. And, as per tradition, Bonhams will provide its now famous chilli and mulled wine refreshments for participants, sponsors and VIPs at the Finish-Line Hospitality Village on Madeira Drive, Brighton.

To culminate the prestigious celebrations surrounding 125 years of the automobile, Mercedes-Benz will be entering two vehicles from the company’s own collection and two customer vehicles for the 115th anniversary Run.

From the museum collection, a 1902 two-seater Mercedes-Simplex racing car will be driven by renowned British motoring journalist Doug Nye and Bernd Ostman, editor-in-chief of the professional journal Auto Motor und Sport. A 1904 four-seater Mercedes-Simplex touring car will be piloted by Nigel Mansell OBE, 1992 Formula 1 World Champion. The private entries include a 1903 60 PS Mercedes-Simplex and a 1904 28/32 PS Mercedes-Simplex racing car.

The 2011 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run will be the 63rd year since 1948 that Mercedes-Benz have attended the event, which is an annual highlight of the Mercedes-Benz Classic calendar.

Event co-sponsor, the Bosch Group is celebrating a double anniversary in 2011: the 125th anniversary of the company’s establishment and the company founder’s 150th birthday. This celebratory year has prompted the company to demonstrate how its past fuels its future, driving forward to new – and above all beneficial – achievements.

The company’s magneto ignition device for stationary gas engines was adapted in 1897 for automotive applications and consequently Bosch can claim credit as the driving force behind innumerable participants over the event’s 115 year history.

Bosch sees itself as a company that takes strength from its past in order to meet the challenges of its future. By 2013, Bosch will start series production for 20 electro-mobility projects for 12 vehicle manufacturers with its most recent project being the planned establishment of a joint venture with Daimler AG to develop and manufacture electric motors for electric vehicles in Europe.

The London and Brighton Metropole Hotels were venues for the original 1896 Emancipation Run. It is therefore fitting that Hilton joins the Run as hotel partner, particularly with the RAC Future Car Challenge setting out from Brighton to London the preceding day while the Brighton Hilton Metropole also doubles as the venue for the inaugural Veteran Car Run Gala Dinner on Sunday night, hosted by TV star Jon Culshaw.

Renault UK joined the event’s list of associate sponsors in 2004, the year they celebrated its 100th anniversary of business in the UK. As lead media sponsor, Renault provides vital services at various points throughout the route including the media centres at Hyde Park and Brighton, the media courtesy vehicle service and the VIP shuttle service along Madeira Drive.

Ever since its foundation in 1897, just one year after the Emancipation Run held in celebration of the Locomotives on Highways Act 1896, the RAC has been consistently at the forefront in developing motoring services. A long time supporter of the Run, RAC Motoring Services is the essential signage and recovery service for participants with an extensive fleet of vehicles and patrols used across the 60 mile route.

EFG International, a leading private bank and asset manager, is the official banking partner to the Veteran Car Run. The company, which has its head office in Switzerland and branches around the globe, is an avid supporter of classic motoring while its sponsorship introduces EFG International to the earliest period of motoring.

Established in 1853, Motul has an enviable history in the development and production of specialist lubricants for motoring and motorsport. Renowned for high performance, innovative and motorsport lubricants, Motul utilises its event partnership to highlight the importance of lubricants and promote its premium and classic oil products to period motoring enthusiasts, owners and collectors.

Although founded in the USA in 1983, Hagerty Insurance launched its service for car collectors in 1991 and is now the largest classic and collector car insurance specialist in the USA and beyond. Hagerty International, the UK-based subsidiary, was established in 2006 to cater for the parallel market sector in the UK and Europe, and now offers a bespoke portfolio of insurance products, underwritten by Allianz. In June 2009, Hagerty International became the preferred insurance partner to the motoring department of Bonhams. Today the company insures many of the cars participating in the 2011 Veteran Car Run.

Abels, one of the UK’s premier home moving, logistics and shipping companies, joins the event as official luggage transfer/logistics partner. A Royal warrant holder to Her Majesty The Queen since 1989 and specialists in the art of moving, Abels deliver the management and logistics for the participants luggage service, which has grown in proportion with the event’s notable expansion.

One of the world’s leading travel organisations, Kuoni has supported the Run for many years by effortlessly providing participants with travel arrangements and accommodation thanks to its extensive expertise and connections with London and Brighton hotels.

Alongside Tindle Newspapers, valued media partners to the 2011 London to Brighton Veteran Car Run include Haymarket Publications, Autocar and Classic and Sports Car, in addition to the Sunday Telegraph.

The Royal Automobile Club and the event organisers also gratefully acknowledge the support of the following companies and public bodies in assisting the Run each year: City of Westminster, Croydon, Crawley and Brighton & Hove City Councils, Royal Parks, TfL and the Regent Street Association.
