Masters Historic Racing announces Jerez championship finals weekend

Masters Historic Racing will add the Spanish circuit of Jerez to its impressive roster of circuits for 2013 as it has formed a new event with the owners of the former home of the Spanish Grand Prix.

The circuit in the sherry-producing region of Spain is keen to establish a major historic motor sport event and is working with Masters Historic Racing to provide an action-packed weekend of racing.

Masters will take its GP Masters grid for historic Formula One cars, plus WSM, Gentlemen Drivers Pre-66 GT cars, Pre-66 Touring Cars and Can Am Interserie Challenge races as well as including grids for the FIA Lurani Trophy and a local Iberian GT race.

The event will run on the weekend of October 11/13 and will be a perfect end of season event, allowing teams to enjoy some excellent weather as well as great racing on a track that boasts superb facilities with the added benefit of free local hotels and a fully catered Drivers Club throughout the race weekend.

Masters Event Manager Rachel Bailey said: “We are flattered that the Jerez circuit has come to Masters to help organise this new event. The market for historic motor sport in the Iberian region is increasing all the time and the Jerez circuit is a very impressive facility that will appeal to our competitors. By running this event at the end of the season, we’re letting teams have one final blast and a holiday in one trip. We are confident that competitors will enjoy the new challenge offered by Jerez and we’re pleased to be able to add another former Formula 1 circuit to our calendar.”

Juan Baquero Alonso, CEO of Circuito de Jerez said: “We are very happy to enter into this new relationship with Masters to help promote and develop our new historic festival. The cars, atmosphere and spectacle will make a superb weekend and we are confident that this event will grow into one of the best on the historic racing calendar.”

Jesus Pozo, the creator of the Espiritu de Montjuic event at the Circuit de Catalunya, is working on the off-track element of the event and is planning car club displays and circuit laps, music, trade sites and a funfair to add to the festival nature of the weekend.

The Jerez Masters Historic Festival is the final round of the Masters Historic Racing championships for 2013.
