Snetterton Vintage Festival Set To Recall Heroic Era Of Racing

VSCC1_SmallNostalgic racing, car displays and jazz music at September event A pioneering age of motorsport will be recalled at the Snetterton Vintage Sports-Car Festival on Sunday 28 September, with pre and post-war racing on the track, plus vintage-themed fun including car displays, jazz music and a trip into Snetterton’s rich history.

Spectators are invited to get into the spirit of nostalgia at the festival and many dress for the occasion, which focuses on the immediate pre and post-war eras of motor racing. Five classes of vintage machinery will take to the Norfolk venue’s 200 circuit, where fans will be able to see drivers working hard at the wheel, wrestling their cars as they recall heroic deeds and classic duels.

Pre-1931 thoroughbreds will compete for the Vintage Seaman Trophy, whilst 1930s and 1950s racers will contest the Historic Seaman and Flockhart Trophy. Pre-war sportscars will also take to the track, in the Mallory Park Mug and Trophy Mug events. Entries include a 100-year-old Vauxhall A/D Type, and one of the celebrated Pre-war Talbot Fox and Nicholl Team Talbot 105s from 1931. Other rarities featured are a 1935 ERA R4A, and a 1938 Maserati 6CM driven by professional GT racer Calum Lockie.

There will also be a race for streamlined 1950s Sports Racing Cars, where a 1958 Lotus 15 and 1959 Lotus 16 will return to the marque’s home county, recalling the legendary Autosport 3 Hour Races at Snetterton.

In addition to the classic sights, sounds and smells of vintage racing, visitors can enjoy a variety of off-track entertainment during the festival. A large display of vintage and historic cars is sure to provide a fascinating spectacle, and fans can get up close to the racing machinery in Snetterton’s open paddock.

Away from the machinery, visitors can relax to the jazz and swing sounds of The Ashby Big Band in the cream teas and Pimms’s tent, whilst there’s the chance to take a trip through Snetterton’s history, including its role in World War II.
