The Mecum Daytime Auction in Monterey will present an incredible assemblage of more than 40 Porsches headlined by one of the rarest and most desirable of them all – the 1955 Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder (Lot S134), Chassis No. 550-0077. The several dozen Porsches will cross the block alongside more than 700 other classic and collector cars at this fifth annual auction held at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa on Del Monte Golf Course this Aug. 15-17.

The Porsche lineup spans decades’ worth of the company’s ingenuity and includes a diverse selection of models, with three of the seminal machines coming straight from The Peter & Cheryl Dunkel Collection including their ever-impressive 550 Spyder. Chassis No. 550-0077 was actively campaigned by European driver Goethals, winning the 1500CC class at the GP des Frontiers in Chimay and the Coupe de Salon in Montlhéry among numerous excellent overall showings. Though the 550 may lead the pack, the collection also includes three other marvelous Porsche creations including a 1958 356A Speedster Race Car (Lot S146.1) and a 1963 356B Carrera 2 Coupe (Lot S137), in addition to the most deviant of the bunch – a 1954 Porsche Allgaier A133 Diesel tractor (Lot S185).

The company’s vast innovative designs are further represented on Mecum’s Porsche-heavy roster by a beautiful and meticulously restored 1964 matching numbers 356C Coupe (Lot S166) with a mere 56,500 miles. Porsche’s revered Slantnose style is embodied in a 1987 911 Type 930 Slantnose (Lot S130) also set to cross Mecum’s block. The car is one of just 144 built that year and features the special-order, factory-original “Flachbau” Slantnose body. Fast-forward to the new millennium and find a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT Roadster (Lot S160), number 879 of 1,270 built with a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, likewise gracing the Monterey lineup.
