Run in the twenty-first century as a regularity rally for vintage and classic cars under the aegis of FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens) by theAlpine Rally Association, the International Rallye des Alpes is an event that seeks to take its competitors over a large number of the roads and passes that constituted the challenge to rally drivers of the Twentieth Century while accommodating them in five star style every evening.
The 2015 event will start from Nyon, east of Geneva with the first night halt in Interlaken set, as its name suggests, at the isthmus between two lakes of the Bernese Oberland. Many of the classic passes such as Grimsel, Furka, St Gotthard and Simplon form the route by which the rally comes to yet another major lake, Lago Maggiore, and the second night halt on its shore at Baveno. A ferry trip starts the third day, which climbs back up into the high Alps and passes St Moritz before resting for the night at the ski resort of Flims. It is another ski resort, this one in Austria at Ischgl, for the fourth night but not before the rally has tackled the most famous pass of them all, the Passo del Stelvio. On the final day, the rally heads north into Bavaria for a traditionally warm welcome amid the fairy castles of Ludwig II at Garmisch Partenkirchen where the rally finishes.
The Revival, firmly established as the world’s most popular historic motor racing and vintage culture event, will be held for an 18th time at Goodwood Motor Circuit in 2015, and will take place on September 11-13. Tickets and hospitality packages for both events will go on general sale on Thursday, 6 November, as will a limited number of tickets for the 73rd Members’ Meeting, which was recently confirmed as being held on 21-22 March 2015.
