CLASSIC ITALIA AT BARONS, SANDOWN PARK

Fans of Italian flair can enjoy la dolce vita at Barons’ Classic Italia sale of classic and collectable Italian cars at Sandown Park, Surrey on June 16th/17th. Explaining the appeal of Italian cars, Barons’ MD Laurence Sayers Gillan said, “What Italian cars offer, more than any other, is pure, unadulterated style. While British cars are best known for sturdiness and charm, Germans for rugged purposefulness and Americans for V8 power and chrome, the Italians take first prize for design.” “In recent years we have seen values of the Alfa Spider firm up, with the early cam tail examples beginning to move upwards. Maserati prices are being helped by the quality of the new cars, and prices of the 308GTB/GTS Ferraris are still very competitive. These are outstanding value, and the Bertone-penned GT4 offers even better value, together with great design and genuine 2+2 seating. Supercars such as the Testarossa, Countach, F40, Diablo and Murciélago are all holding up quite well, and we find a ready market for them from buyers in mainland Europe and the emerging markets in eastern Europe and Russia.” Barons has a strong history of selling these exotic machines, achieving a world record price of £32,560 for a 1960 Abarth Spider at the 2007 Classic Italia auction. That same sale saw a 1997 Ferrari F355 storming to a magnificent £43,000 and an Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Veloce scoring a very satisfying £8,690. Barons has also achieved excellent prices for various Italian classics, including an Alfa 2600 Sprint Saloon (£8,500), a Lamborghini Countach for £33,400, a Maserati Cambiocorsa Spyder for £24,200, a Lamborghini Silhouette at £25,000 and a Ferrari 328GTB for £25,500.
