Bugatti Type 35

Early Grand Prix racing and all motor racing was in for a shock when the Type 35 appeared on the scene in the mid-1920s; come the end of the decade the model had secured over 1000 race wins and the Grand Prix world championship in 1926. Introduced in 1924, using a modified 1991cc engine from the Type 29 it had output figures of 90hp and could pull 6000rpm, whilst weighing only 750kg.Throughout the 20s the models were changed and up rated. The Type C is a master piece of engineering and yet still remains a most beautiful racing machine. Type C cars took French GP wins in 1928 and in 1930 with engines modified to accept a ‘Roots’ Supercharger, the engine now had 128hp.The winner of the 1929 French GP was the Type B; introduced in 1927 it was the pinnacle of performance and handling with a 2261cc engine, a large supercharger and 140hp. Performance figures that would be acceptable today nearly 90 years later, 0-60 in 7 seconds and a top speed of 125mph. Amazing machine to watch in competition, tail sliding, whilst spinning the narrow tyres, drivers leaning out, no belts. An all action race car and this writers No1 of all time. By Grant Ford.Tags:
