Bring Your Classic car to the Blenheim Palace Concours for a great day out – it’s free to enter

COYS is to run the famous Blenheim palace Concours event once again this year on Saturday July 5th. It is open to all and free to enter. The Concours, which is part of the COYS auction sale of Fine Motor Cars. It incorporates the Jaguar Legend, a special section for Jaguar cars, and the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust is providing a special display of Jaguars from their famous collection. “COYS wanted to mark the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar XK 120,” said the Managing Director of COYS, Chris Routledge, “so we have invited the JDHT to bring some very special cars.” Amongst them will be NUB 120, the famous XK 120 Appleyard car, which won many victories in the rallies of the 1950’s. Also on display will be 393 RW, the penultimate D-type, built in March 1956 and originally fitted with the latest specification fuel injection engine. It was allocated to the Jaguar works racing team, and was entered for the Reims 12-hour race, which it won, driven by Duncan Hamilton and Ivor Bueb. The Jaguar C-Type, on show at Blenhiem, is one of the later production cars. It was bought by the Italian driver Tadini and entered in the 1953 Mille Miglia, but retired. After many years in Switzerland, it came back to the UK in the 1970s and was bought for the JDHT in 1983. The last Jaguar saloon car to use the famous XK engine, first launched almost forty years before and on display is a 1987 Jaguar XJ6 series 3 4.2 Litre Sovereign. Also on display will be the last example of the DS 420 Daimler DS420 Limousine built in 1992. It was the last car to use the 44-year old Jaguar XK engine design. COYS are also bringing A Jaguar D type that raced at Le-Mans and came fourth overall in both 1956 and 1957 .The car was prepared by the Jaguar completion department for the well known racing team Ecurie Francorchamps and painted in bright yellow represented Belgium. Only four of the works Le Mans D Type Jaguars survive in original condition two are in museums and the other two will appear at Blenheim. The ex Ronnie Hoare C type as well as the 1928 Targa Florio type 35b Bugatti and the Scuderia Brescia Corsa GT40 - the last one to run at LeMans, will also be on parade. So far, more than 25 examples of Brown’s Lane products have been signed up for the auction, which will take place at 3pm. More than 70 cars, including a collection of film and TV vehicles will go under the hammer. One of these will be Mr Bean’s famous Mini, which appeared in the Carlton Television show. Originally sourced through Action Vehicles, the car comes complete with the door bolt, detachable steering wheel and a letter of authenticity from the vendor confirming its originality. A 1972 Reliant Regal which appeared in the television series Only Fools and horses comes complete with a full MoT test certificate, a V5C registration document and an inflatable doll called Antonia. A1986 Bentley Bacon Sandwich, which was created on Discovery Channels show the “Chop Shop”, will be up for sale. Commissioned by Virgin Radio’s Christian O’Connell, car fabricators Bernie and Leepu customised a Bentley Mulsanne and made it into a “beautiful, classic-looking car- with attitude!” Other cars from the Chop Shop collection include A 2003 Mitsubishi Eco Jeep, which is able to run on curry oil rather than petrol or diesel, and appropriately painted in bright green in deference to the environmental theme. Finally a 1986 The F***ing Fulfords Volvo which is a hunting, shooting and fishing multi-purpose all-terrain vehicle! Bedecked with lamps and winch, and painted in army camouflage colours to emphasise the rugged strength of the vehicle. Delivered new in October 1937 a Bentley 4¼ Litre All Weather Tourer with Thrupp & Maberly coachwork, chassis B 170 KT’s will also go under the hammer. Its original owner was the Viscount Bridport. Only three such examples were ever produced of this handsome four door pillar-less tourer. `Also to go under the hammer is a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 finished in the most highly sought after colour combination of Sliver Birch with black leather interior. There will be a large section of automobilia as well as the usual section for sporting guns. Cars taking part in the Concours can arrive from 10am and will be judged by a panel of judges. Classes this year will include: The XK class for XK and other jaguars; The Best of British; for all British cars. Forza Italia, for everything that is Italian, and The Spirit of Motoring, for any car that evokes the great days of the motor car and Continental Cars. Judges this year will include the editor of Octane, Robert Coucher, Giuseppe De Wilde from the Bluebird club in London, Steve Wakefield from Classic Driver and Charles Harbord Editor of Cars For The Connoisseur. Concours exhibitors will be allowed into the auction and food areas free of charge. They will be able to purchase a catalogue at a discount of 25% off if they wish to bid at the auction. They should identify themselves at reception. Chris Routledge said: “We want to make this a celebration of Jaguar so anyone who is a Jaguar enthusiast is very welcome to attend.” COYS are also busy supporting events in both this country and abroad. Next weekend they are once again sponsoring the prestigious Vernasca Silver Flag Hill Climb in Italy, where working with Jaguar, they will be running the safety cars for the event which will see over 170 classic cars taking part. Coys will be entering two teams in next weekends Brooklands Double Twelve festival of motoring. Jack Bridger-Stille (age 10) will be co-pilot to Coys Auctions Edward Bridger-Stille (age slightly older) who will be piloting a 1931 Bentley 8 litre with touring bodywork through the timed trials both on the banking and around the Mercedes-Benz infield circuit. Paul Chedecki will be driving a 1956 Arnolt Bristol. The event, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, will see all competitors in period dress. There will be a concourse event on Sunday as well as finals and trophy presentation.Tags:
