BIG CATS ON THE PROWL AT SANDOWN PARK
Entries are now invited for Barons’ Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Collectors’ Car Sale at Sandown Park, Surrey on April 29th. The ‘cats’ are particularly close to the auction house’s heart - the directors of Barons are steeped in Jaguar history - and the company has a long record of success in selling Jaguars, setting a number of UK records for the marque in the 2006/2007 season.
Barons’ MD Laurence Sayers Gillan was a specialist dealer in classic Jaguars in the 1980s and ‘90s, a founder member of the Jaguar Car Club and served on the Jaguar Drivers’ Club competition committee. In addition, he used to own and run a Jaguar racing team, campaigning a 550bhp V12 S3 Saloon in the AMOC Inter Marque Championship and other national race series. Another Barons’ director was a well-known MkII racer and Jaguar race-car preparation specialist, with a string of successes behind him, both behind the wheel and as a race engineer.
“To put it succinctly, we love and understand all things Jaguar, and I believe that affinity with the marque has helped us sell them so successfully,” said Laurence Sayers Gillan.
In 2006/2007 Barons’ Jaguar UK sale records included: 1938 SS1 Tourer (£56,105), 1959 XK150SE DHC (£50,056), 1959 XK150S 3.8 FHC (£50,056), 1968 E-Type S2 Roadster (£41,807), 1969 E-Type S2 FHC (£31,000), 1965 MkII 3.4 Saloon (£33,000) and 1961 MkIX (£17,200).
Laurence Sayers Gillan also attributes his company’s sales success to its competitive commission rates and prompt payment, “Before a vendor consigns their Jaguar - or any car - to an auction house, it makes sense to do a little research. Buyer’s premiums of 15 or 17.5% make a car more expensive and return the vendor less, and some auction houses keep the vendor’s money for several months after the auction. Our 10% buyer’s premium and 3% seller’s commission help us achieve record prices for first-rate or rare motor cars, and we pay vendors in just eight days, from a secure, ring-fenced, client account.”Tags:
