Big prices achieved for Jim Clark Lotus and Grand Prix Alfa

Last week’s H&H classic vehicle sale at The Centaur, Cheltenham grossed over £2.3 million – a house record. It also saw the highest price so far paid for a car at an H&H auction, with the 1929 Irish Grand Prix winning Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport fetching £503,000 – a mere £6,000 more than the ex-Jim Clark 1962 Lotus 25, which itself had claimed that record earlier in the same sale!

Pat Doran triumphed over adversity in the final round of the British Rallycross Championship at Croft, North Yorkshire on Saturday, when he became champion for the first time. The Sittingbourne driver suffered a torrid time during practice when his Ford RS200 blew a head gasket – desoite tge fact that it was a brand new engine installed after an expensive blow-up at the previous round.

1994 European Rallycross Championship

The 1994 championship was characterised by intense competition between Hansen (winner of the first two rounds); 1993 champion Jean-Luc Pailler (winner of the next two rounds) and Martin Schanche, who claimed the first of three victories in round five at Croft in June. That win came as a huge relief to the Norwegian as he had put his Escort on pole position in each of the previous two races and twice had been foiled by Pailler. At Croft too, the Frenchman led until a controversial clash i the second corner left the Citroen on its rook and Martin the winner from the restart.
