The record breaking 2013 Silverstone Classic will star on free to air ITV4 television at 21:00 on Thursday 15 August.
Last month’s extravaganza confirmed the massive event’s status as ‘the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival’with an unprecedented 1113 entries contesting 24 races covering the full spectrum of motor sport history including F1, GT, single-seater, touring and sportscars from much-loved bygone eras.
The dedicated one-hour ITV4 programme features much of the stunning on-track action as well as putting the focus on the enormous number of classic cars on display. It also covers many of the other amazing attractions that make the annual Silverstone Classic such a special spectacle.
Whisper Films – the production company co-owned by David Coulthard and Jake Humphrey – had the unenviable task of squeezing all the entertainment into a single stand-alone show. The programme is hosted by Louise Goodman, a familiar face to ITV4 viewers via the channel’s extensive coverage of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
“This year’s Silverstone Classic attracted a record crowd of more than 90,000, now millions more can see what they missed via their television sets,” said Nick Wigley, Event Director. “More importantly, perhaps, free to air television coverage confirms the Classic’s status not just as one of the jewels in the UK’s motor sport calendar but also as one of the summer’s unmissable festivals with so much entertainment on offer for all ages and interests.”
Among the record crowd savouring the spectacular event were five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell MBE, three-time world champion Sir Jackie Stewart and veteran commentator Murray Walker OBE – and interviews with all three motor sport legends are included in the programme. Others participating include former BTCC champion Tim Harvey, renowned television presenter Tiff Needell and Sabine Schmitz, well known to BBCTop Gear viewers for her exploits around the epic Nürburgring circuit.
For those unable to make a date with ITV4 on Thursday evening further opportunities to watch the Silverstone Classic are available with repeats being screened on ITV4 at 09:00 on Sunday 18 August, 20:00 on Wednesday 21 August and 20:00 on Monday 9 September. The show will also be broadcast over Christmas and will be available on ITV Player.Tags:Silverstone Classic
